Ned Branchi &The Pandavas were founded in Yogyakarta, Indonesia in November 2010, as a recording and performing band, for the presentation of original work by Australian artist Ned Branchi, in collaboration with some of Indonesia's finest musicians. Current repertoire includes songs from the Albums, "Spoon", "StKilda Moon", "StKilda Sun" and "Hati Ke Hati" (Heart to Heart). The recording project currently involves pre-production work on 2 new albums "Buddy Jesus" and "Zen Butterflies". Previous work in Indonesia on the "Hati Ke Hati" album has involved combining contemporary rock with traditional Indonesian Gamelan instruments, on songs such as "Black February", "Six degrees of Separation", "There's Nothing There" and "Garbage Man". Future recording and performance will continue experimenting with this style of collaboration, exploring many more forms of instrumentation from across the whole of "Nusantara" (The Indonesian Archipelago) In 2010 the "Hati Ke Hati" project was presented at 'Taman Budaya' Concert hall in Yogyakarta in a show called "East Meets West" which combined a full rock band, full gamelan orchestra and full string orchestra. The Pandavas did their first live performance as stand alone rock band (without gamelan) at "Liquid Club" in Yogyakarta in June 2011, to a packed house, with resounding reviews from local press. Future performances are planned in cities across Indonesia, including Bali, Jakarta, Solo, Semarang to name a few and eventually a tour will be scheduled to bring this show to Australia and possibly other countries as well. CDs are released in Indonesia and Australia by "Garbage Collection Records®" and are also available online through this website. Songs can also be downloaded from www.mp3.com.au/nedbranchi The Pandavas are 5 heroic brothers from the great Indian epic story "Mahabharata" which features in the classic traditions of "Wayang Kulit"(Shadow Puppet Plays),"Wayang Golek"(Wooden Puppet Plays) and the classical theatre of Indonesia as well as many other Asian countries, especially in South and South East Asia.
